According to the BABOK® Guide v.3:
Business analysis is the practice of enabling change in an enterprise by defining needs and recommending solution that deliver value to stakeholders. Business analysis enable an entreprise to articulate needs and the rationale for change, and to design and describe solution that deliver value.
The six core concept mentioned (Need, Change, Solution, Stakeholder, Value ans Context) are the fundamental to practice business analysis. They are called the Business Analysis Core Concept Model™.
Received MFA in 2004, I flew back to Taiwan and started my career as a web designer at a local software company. To better realize “how the real world works”, I attended lectures and took project management courses. In June 2005, I earned my PMP certificate.
Later that year, my company was acquired by a Milpitas-based company. At the same time, I was promoted to the HQ web design team leader.
Holding a management-designer title isn’t a easy job. I had to stop cleaning the model’s hair in Photoshop in order to discuss marketing schedule with project owners.
After leaving the company in 2010, I was hired as a product planner.
For the past decade, I have worked in several startups and spin-offs. Some of them hold a team of 60 engineers, and some consist shy of 5 team members.

There are times my team go lean and run scrum based on a boss’ whim or luck guesses. Only the boss whisperer know the answers to these 3 questions above. At the end of day, everyone suffers the catastrophic failures.
I came to realize that even the boss himself doesn’t not posse the business analysis skills.
This is why I chose to study CBAP. So help me God.
